Are men the new women in fashion?

1 Introduction

Fashion plays an increasingly important role in today's society. It is no longer just women who try to follow certain trends or even set them, on the contrary, it is more and more men who set, expand and renew the current fashion trends. These are no longer exclusively designers and fashion magnates like Karl Lagerfeld or Louis Vuitton, whose world-famous fashion collections not only determine the catwalks of the world, but also the style of famous department store chains such as H&M and thus the everyday looks of many men and women.

In everyday life, the look is now determined by men, because they not only seem to be more enthusiastic about fashion, but also know a lot more about fashion than women. In this term paper I would like to explain my thesis that men are the new women in the fashion world, whereby I will illuminate my own YouTube channel "RomynaRed - Fashion, Beauty, Love", which mainly deals with topics for women, such as fashion, and which is still largely subscribed to by men.

2. Fashion, fetish, transvestite fetishism

Fashion is determined by many factors nowadays and

describes the contemporary way of people doing certain things, like dressing here. The decisive factor here is that these specific behaviors are not permanent, but rather, as a result of social processes, are replaced after some time by new behaviors that are considered to be contemporary or as modern be valid. From this one deduces that fashion is subject to a cycle that is constantly changing, so that trends or fashion are usually associated with short-term changes in the zeitgeist. Every new fashion evokes new behavior, design and thought patterns and thus evaluates what is already there.

fetish In colloquial usage, includes sexual inclinations with regard to an object and is generally understood to have a derogatory connotation. Every object can become a fetish.

Some researchers classify fetishes based on whether they are because of their shape (form fetish) or their material (media fetish) have arisen[1]. An example of a form fetish would be a shoe or foot fetish; for a material fetish it would be lacquer and leather, or nylon fetish.[2] It should be noted that only if an object has the shape preferred by the fetishist or is made of his preferred material, it can actually act as a fetish and thus also apply.

In the case of a fetish, the sense of smell, the look or the feel can be of decisive importance.[3] Some fetishists are already aroused by the sight, for others all senses are necessary for arousal. Some fetishes only work in connection with certain role plays or scenarios, for example school uniforms can become fetishes because they represent the stereotype of an innocent and young school girl.

In the subcultural understanding there are no clear boundaries of the fetish; Role play, like wearing lingerie as a man, can be understood as a fetish. Here, the fetish is understood as an equal and legitimate sexual orientation that is not pathological and therefore does not need to be treated.[4] It can be of decisive importance whether the clothing was worn beforehand or not. The most common fetishes for men include female clothing[5], such as underwear, shoes, and uniforms.[6]

Fetishes, like fashion, can change over time. Either an existing fetish is modified or more are added. A permanent decline is rare.

The transvestite fetishism One differentiates from transvestism, which is an expression of gender identity. A certain form of fetishism is called transvestite fetishism, in which clothing of the opposite sex that is already worn is used for sexual arousal. Items of clothing such as tights or shoes play a role in this. A mental disorder is only diagnosed if those affected are suffering from it.[7] Transvestite fetishism is often used to refer to any sexual act or stimulation where clothing of the opposite sex becomes important. Here you have to differentiate between very different motivations. It can be part of a role play without having a fetish character, or it can just be the expression of a clichéd understanding of roles. According to several of my subscribers in higher positions, some men want to take on a passive role and put on women's clothes because they can only combine this passive attitude with a female role.
